Recently, Alia Bhatt, accompanied by her sister, Shaheen Bhatt, gave us a glimpse into their skincare regime by releasing a video titled “Skin secrets with Alia and Shaheen,” on the actor’s YouTube channel. The new mother, who keeps serving us glowy looks pre and post-partum, spoke in length about her skin type, “skinsecurities” and her skincare regime, with her sister.
The Gangubai actor credited her sister, Shaheen, with teaching her all about skincare and the importance of ingredients in the products. The latter even gifted the former a skin care kit instruction in 2019, that talked in detail about the breakdown of what her morning and evening regime should look like.
The video started by addressing the skin type of the sister duo. While the actor has a combination skin type with an oily T-zone, her sister deals with extremely dry skin and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation due to acne, along with sensitivity and irritation which her routine focused on. The next step was talking about major skin concerns–while Alia struggles with picking her acne spots repeatedly, and dry patches, Shaheen struggles with dark circles and PIH. Then came the skin goals–short and long-term which include self-care rituals, looking glowy, preventing acne and overall preventative care. The duo discuss why skincare is so important to them, and how the largest organ of our body deserves love and care too. Throughout the video, they keep revealing dos and don’ts of skincare, like avoiding using actives together and damaging your skin barrier. With this we deep dive into their skincare rituals.
Step 1-Cleansing
A good skincare ritual starts with a good cleanser. Alia’s first step is cleansing her face with a gentle cleanser that does not strip her skin’s natural oils. Her go to is the Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser which does the job well. Shaheen, on the other hand, refrains from cleansing her face n the morning, since she has extremely dry skin and directly jumps to her second step after splashing some water on her face. However, she does indulge in double cleansing for her PM routine to remove everything from her face.
Step 2- Toning
The actor uses a toning mist instead of a toner to add some extra hydration and ingredients before she proceeds to the serum stage. The mist is a fine choice, as it’s easier to apply and the ingredients go deeper than a regular toner. She uses the Byoma Balancing Face Mist which has probiotics and tri-ceramide complex. Ceramides are the building blocks of the skin carrier and is meant to nourish the skin, while probiotics help in balancing out your skin, even out your skin tone, brighten it and work on reducing your acne, dry skin, irritation etc. while adding some extra hydration.
Step 3- Serum
The best way to introduce actives in your routine is through serums. Shaheen likes to indulge in them. The first one is a hyaluronic serum that helps her dry skin by drawing moisture from around the surroundings to the skin to hydrate it and reduce dryness, along with giving the appearance of plump skin. Hyaluronic serum is an extremely popular straightforward humectant that is great for people with dry skin and should be applied over damp skin and locked with a moisturiser. This is also called a moisture sandwich. She uses Skinceuticals Intensifer as her preferred hydrating serum which has different molecular sizes of the humectant to penetrate deeper into the skin. Her next step is a ceramide serum to repair her damaged skin barrier and soothe her skin by nourishing it. She uses the Glow Recipe Avocado Ceramide Recovery Serum which has avocado extract. Avocado is rich in omega-3 fatty acids, and lipids that form a major part of a healthy skin barrier. For her under-eyes, she uses The Ordinary Caffeine Solution. Caffeine helps in brightening the under-eye area and reduces puffiness, fine lines and wrinkles.
